Whether a debt consolidation plan is right for you or not will depend on the amount and type of debt that you have. Not all the people are at the same financial need, and therefore, you should examine your financial position carefully. Debt consolidation plans can help make your payments more manageable by putting them in one loan. If you are the type of person who has too many bills spread all around this might make things easy for you. However, it can also put your important assets such your home at risk if you default on your payments. If you are in little trouble, a debt consolidation might be the solution for your problems. It can be in the form of a line or credit or an actual bank loan. The major question that you should ask yourself is whether you will have enough money after obtaining the loan to comfortably pay your bills and live the same kind of lifestyle. If you are unable to go for the line of credit under the consolidation plan, you should go for the best deal that you can get. Usually credit unions will offer good deals but some will require that you become a member .Your own bank would be an easier option but that is if you had a good relationship with them. There are two kinds of loans .One is the secured loan where there will be a determination of your assets against your debts and your assets will be used as collateral against your debts. The other type is the unsecured type where your assets are not looked at keenly but the interest rate is much higher than the secured loans. If the interest rate is still much lower than what your outstanding debt is, this can be a good option. In summary these loans are much easier to manage, have lower interest rates and have lower monthly repayments. However they may end up costing more in the long term and you may also need a co-signer (which may be hard to get) before you get the loan.
